CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — UPDATE #2
We continue to follow the second day of a wildfire in Centre County. Dozens of fire companies from around our region and state agencies have assisted local fire crews through Thursday night into Friday, all trying to contain the blaze.
As of Friday afternoon, incident commander Ryan Ling, an assistant district manager for the Moshannon State Forest District, estimates about 30% of the wildfire is contained.
STATE COLLEGE -- Residents of Centre County worked together to help bring a family’s dog back home earlier this week, and now the family wants to thank the thousands of people that came together who helped them.
The Giardano family said it took a team of people and some high-tech gadgets to bring their dog back home.
However, they truly believe that it was their prayers that kept their dog, Poncho, alive after he spent weeks outside in subfreezing temperatures.
UPDATE |RICHLAND TWP., Pa. (WJAC) — Richland Township police have released new information regarding Wednesday night's crash on Route 219, in Cambria County, that sent two people to the hospital.
Police say a Richland Township police officer was conducting a traffic stop, near the Elton Road exit, and a second officer had stopped to assist.
Authorities say during the course of the traffic stop, a man had entered 219 southbound, via the bypass, and continued traveling along the berm of the road.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The future of mail operations at Johnstown’s USPS processing center is a little clearer after officials announced a plan to modernize operations.
Officials say there will be no career layoffs at the facility, however they do leave open the possibility some of those jobs could be reassigned to other locations.
They say the facility will remain open as they invest $3.7 million into the facility to streamline processing and distribution.
WASHINGTON (TND) — Fraternities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are receiving an outpouring of support for a patriotic act performed by some of their members.
Images and videos circulating social media this week depicted members of the school’s Pi Kappa Phi, Alpha Epsilon Pi and other fraternities holding up the U.S. flag. The image was taken during a campus protest in which demonstrators attempted to raise a Palestinian flag in its place, according to freelance journalist Bryan Anderson.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CITC) — Teachers throughout western Massachusetts are voicing frustrations as they work to accommodate an influx of migrant students to their schools, according to documents obtained by a parents' rights group.
Massachusetts is one of several Northeast states currently facing an influx of migrants. Gov. Maura Healey earlier this month signed off on a law allocating millions of additional dollars to the state's emergency shelter system, sparking protests in Boston.
CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — The remains of a missing man were found in a freezer that was buried in Tennessee. Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said on Thursday that a search warrant in Hampton was executed on a 17-acre lot. Three search warrants stemmed from a missing persons report filed on March 31, according to Fraley.
Edward Elliott was reported missing by a family member in late March. Elliot had not been seen or heard from since late January, according to court documents.
